Gentoo and the Community

At Gentoo, our vision extends far beyond property. We want to create accessible, vibrant, self-sustaining communities, which people will be proud to call their own.

We're working towards this goal by developing and delivering a wide range of community activities, based around care and support, social investment, regeneration and community empowerment. Some of our most successful initiatives include Community Kids, which encourages children to take pride in their community, Construction Challenge, a scheme that gives construction skills to 15 and 16 year olds and Aspire, which provides grants of up to £500 to voluntary and community groups.

We encourage our people to give something back to their communities, too. So we operate a number of activities for you to get involved in. These include mentoring opportunities, team challenges, campaigns and Give Hour, where we ask you to give an hour a month to a worthy cause.

We're committed to making the North East an even better place for future generations to enjoy, so we’re constantly looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact. In fact, we recently won a Green Apple award and the UK Housing Award for 'Increasing Environmental Sustainability'.

We run an industry-leading Energy Efficiency Programme and have built a number of sustainable developments. However, we also believe we can have a positive impact on the environment by promoting environmental awareness among our people and our customers.
